ohBOY ohBOY! Just returning from BrainWashed at the Regent. It was sexellent. Some awesomeness happened, but I won't give it away because it has pictures to go with it!!! So the festival started with lots of milling about, and the video of "No More Mosquitoes" by Four Tet projected in a loop onto the stage for an hour. That's when I snagged my 4$ "Death to the Dresden Dolls" t-shirt. Then Z'EV opened up the night with a message from BrainWashed! The Z'EV lit up a spliff (on stage. he's from Holland FYI) and set up his drumtoob things. He played a really hardcore jungle-beat tribal metallish thing that was like 2 minutes long. Then he lit another spliff (3rd? 4rth?) and played a 25 minute ballad *tear* Then some band called Red'este played. They sucked but their lead guitarist was verrrry cute (albeit dyke-y) and her playing was THE redeeming quality of the band... Did I mention she was cute? And the other two guys were hairy and talentless? Shoulda been a solo artist, lady.... THEN THE DRESDEN DOLLS HIT THE STAGE!!! Brian went insane and chucked drumsticks everywhere. He was so fast it was hard to take pix. Amanda wasnt wearing undies. I was in the first row about 3 feet under her and she jumped up on her piano stool and I practically died. I have a little crush! (for about 3 years now...) Then they played Missed Me with a special guest singer; everyones favorite creepy old guy rapist!!! In the middle of the song they just started to get TOO creepy. I mean. Gah. He was wearing monk robes, a shawl, no shoes, and a bare ass. Then they played Girl Anachronism with the blue/red light contrast. But the show was over... Or was it? Everyone cheered and they came back. Amanda said "I don't know what to play" so everyone screamed "30 Whacks" but me and Kevin yelled "Mandy Goes to Med School!!!!" and since we were right there, she looked down and said "Wow I haven't played that in weeks." and they played it. ^.^ After the show, who should I run into in the back room, but Amanda! I talked with her and Kevin and Z'EV and Mliss for about a half hour about sensory-deprivation chambers and early vaudeville performers (random). When I asked is she could sign my album she gave me THIS and kissed me on the cheek... *swoon* (if only she weren't taken...) Anyway, all in all a great concert, great fun, and awesome celeb meetingness. Sorry for the craptastic pictures. The lighting kept changing, but I didn't really have the means to change my shutterspeed or aperture what with all the drooling I was doing. |
